Michiel has been a lawyer for over 25 years, specialising in environmental law and general administrative law.

Michiel advises and litigates for governments, investors, developers and (retail) companies on zoning and environmental plans, environmental permits and environmental aspects, such as nature protection (nitrogen, flora and fauna), soil pollution, energy transition and sustainability. He is also regularly engaged in enforcement, loss compensation and government liability cases.

Michiel has extensive experience with multifunctional (inner) urban (re)developments, transformations, area developments and housing projects. He is also involved in the spatial integration of commercial and social real estate, such as offices, shops, care institutions, hotels, business sites, wind and solar parks and leisure projects.

Michiel has registered the following areas of law in the Register of Jurisdictions of the Netherlands Bar Association:

This registration obliges him to earn ten training points each calendar year in each registered area of law according to the standards of the Netherlands Bar Association.

Michiel studied Dutch and European law (LL.M.). He started his career as a lawyer at the Administrative Law Directorate of the Council of State (Spatial Planning Chamber). Michiel has worked as an attorney since 1998, initially at the real estate sections of Stibbe and Lexence, and since 2008 as a partner at Stijl advocaten.
